Moths in South Carolina

South Carolina has several moth species from different families, like the green luna moth of the silk moth family and the unique hummingbird moths of the hawk moth families. There are some unique moths, too, like the gold-striped leaftier moth with a golden body marked with black stripes or the yellow-vested moth with an attractive yellow patch on top. The Asian gypsy moth, on the other hand, is one of the noted pests here, causing damage to several shrubs and plants.
